B.C. Ferries has launched its own travel agency called -- B.C. Ferries Vacations – this week. They offer 20 vacation packages up and down the West Coast. Sounds like a great idea, considering the shop is located across the street for the new convention center. With the hotel, cruise and convention traffic, BC Ferries will no doubt find a ton of interest to visit the Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and all over the West Coast. They have already been profiled in the Province and on Global TV
But how would you show off the wonder and amazement of the Empress Hotel, Parliament Buildings, Butchart Gardens, the West Coast Trail, Tofino, Mt Washington, and so much more. How can you explain to people around the world (staying here in downtown Vancouver) that behind the twead curtain in an old tudor building on Oak Bay Ave. exists a lovely quaint tea shop called the Blethering Place. A picture of course! But not just any picture... Make them BIG. No I mean REALLY BIG. And digital of course.
Using the Media FX Group expertise in video wall technology and motion graphics, BC Ferries was able to produce a 16 LCD screen panoramic video wall with animation/transitions and interactivity. Ron Jacklin was sent on a photo shoot to collect over 100 panoramic photos. Some of the photos being 20,000 pixels wide. Zach Shore took those photos and with the help of Cyrus Manalo did the colour correction. Zach with the help of Ron programmed the show and created the animations and transitions. The system lead was Acumen Engineering and the hardware was provided by ProSound. Burnkit produced the interactive portion of the video wall.
This is quite an exciting project for the Media FX Group because of the publicity and accessibility. The Media FX Group has produced HUGE panoramic imagery, but typically for closed conventions, product launches, and awards shows. Not since Flying Wedge Pizza’s multi screen installations (last year) have we seen such a public demonstration of our capabilities on the digital signage front!
